dell inspiron 6000 laptop battery review

dell inspiron 6000 laptop battery review

The Dell Inspiron 6000 is a midsize laptop with an entertainment slant. The design is quite similar to that found on a number of other Dell laptops, including the Inspiron 9300 and the XPS M140. The notebook is light silver with a white trim, and it measures about 1.5 inches thick, 14 inches across, and just less than 10.5 inches deep. The keyboard is firm and adequately responsive, Apple Laptop Battery and it's big enough to work on comfortably.dell Inspiron 6000 battery, Below the keyboard is a nice-size touch pad with two big mouse buttons. Our test unit weighed 6.6 pounds, or 7.5 pounds with the compact AC adapter--about average for a midsize and not quite light enough for comfortable travel. Overall, the case feels fairly sturdy, though the lid gives quite a bit when you push down on it. We like the silver media-control buttons that line the case's front edge. They're accessible even when the notebook's lid is closed, and you can use them to adjust the volume (or mute) and toggle through tracks on a CD or scenes on a DVD. Two stereo speakers also sit along the Inspiron 6000's ( dell inspiron 9200 battery )front edge; they were louder and clearer than your average laptop speakers.

Our test unit featured a 15.4-inch wide-screen display with a 1,280x800 native resolution. The display looked a little dim to us, particularly around the edges, and we left it at its brightest setting; we're keeping an eye on the recent rash of customer complaints about Dell's notebook screens, but we didn't notice any significant problems with the Inspiron 6000's.

Connectivitywise, the Inspiron 6000 offers just about everything an average home user will need. You get a headphone and microphone jack; a Secure Digital card reader; an S-Video output for connecting to a TV; VGA out to connect to a monitor; four USB 2.0 ports (two on the right edge, two in back);Inspiron 6000, a four-pin, unpowered FireWire port; and one PCI Express card slot, for which there are no real applications yet. You also get modem and Ethernet connections, as well as built-in 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. Our test unit was configured with a handy double-layer, multiformat DVD burner, which added $150 to the overall cost of the machine. Dell doesn't include much in the way of software; aside from Microsoft Windows XP Home, you also get WordPerfect and some basic photo-editing software.

Our review unit was built around a 1.6GHz Pentium M 725 processor and 512MB of DDR2 RAM; the system's integrated graphics borrow up to 128MB of system memory. With a 60GB hard drive, we got twice as much storage as from the original unit, but Dell cut back on the optical drive; we got a CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo in place of a double-layer DVD±RW. The new,M8403 battery, less expensive unit also had a six-cell battery instead of a nine-cell.

The Inspiron 6000's performance was good, landing it a competitive score on CNET Labs' MobileMark 2002 benchmark that rivaled the punchy Acer TravelMate 2350 and the Gateway NX500X (a.k.a the Gateway M360X). But where the Acer's battery crapped out after two hours, the Inspiron 6000's ran for 3 hours and 45 minutes. (If you plan to travel regularly with the Inspiron 6000 (dell inspiron 6000 battery ), we strongly recommend shelling out $129 for the nine-cell lithium-ion battery,Inspiron 6000 battery, which should give you even more time away from the wall socket).

As part of our $972 configuration, Dell included a one-year parts-and-labor warranty with toll-free, 24-hour tech support. Take note: The company has cut back its standard warranty to just 90 days, depending on the configuration you choose, and we recommend shelling out for at least a year. Toll-free, 24/7 telephone support also lasts for just a year. Dell offers a long list of warranty extension options, including onsite repair, night and weekend service, and accidental-damage coverage--but they're expensive. The best part of Dell's support Web site is the customer forum, where users can go to get help from other Inspiron owners, as well as from Dell reps who moderate the forum. Otherwise, the site offers the typical knowledge base and downloads sections.

Why buy Dell?

Unlike the Fujitsu, Sony , Acer, HP, IBM ,Apple Laptop Battery, Toshiba,Compaq and other models under consideration Dell provides the best balance of cost, performance, and quality in my eyes. Like I've said before, I absolutely hate their ugly plain grey laptops, but these new restyled Inspiron systems are very pleasing to both look at and use. I've also been very happy with nearly every aspect of my XPS2 system.

If you're a college student or someone looking to get a laptop for college it's important to read this paragraph. One of the biggest reasons for my brother to buy a Dell is because of all the agreements they have with his college and the fact that there is a service depot right on campus! If you're a college student you can't ask for any better than that. Also, when it comes to warranty plans Dell has the best offers through their Educational/Employee Purchase Program (EPP), especially on a 4 year plan. It's far more affordable than any other competitor under consideration andA1175 battery, the on-site service with the warranty is great. I've spoken highly of Sony's service before, but not even their 5 day motherboard battery terminal repair on my GRZ630 can compete with a technician fixing a system onsite so you're not without your computer for a while. Another plus is that it's not exactly easy to deal with UPS depending on where you're living at college (dorm, apartment, etc.). Onsite makes things much easier, and for the cost through EPP it's highly reasonable.

If you do not want a warranty or are not going to use this system for college, it is a good idea to catch one of those big coupon deals that come out through the Dell Home section. I'm not particularly fond of warranties myself, but during college it's a big deal to have a constantly functioning system for me so I have no choice. Another important option is to check with your credit card company to see if they extend the warranty coverage of products you buy. This is becoming more and more common with credit cards and is a good way of avoiding paying a premium for extended warranty coverage when it's not a high concern.

The Dell Inspiron 6000 (dell inspiron 9300 battery) is a very nice compromise A1185, between the different extremes of the laptop market. Weighing over 3 kg it is not an ultra-light machine, but it isn't a huge desktop replacement PC either. Instead it offers a bit of both, decent performance even with games, while still portable.

Thanks to its ATI Radeon Mobility X300 128 MB graphics card, which is an optional upgrade, the Dell Inspiron 6000 in this configuration scores a nice 3DMark03 benchmark of 2536, which is pretty much identical to an older desktop I have with a Radeon 9600 Pro. That means you can get all games to at least run on this laptop, even if the framerates in Doom 3 won't be nothing to write home about. It is also more than sufficient to watch DVDs on, although the DVD / CDRW drive is a bit on the noisy side.

The Dell Inspiron 6000 (dell inspiron 9400 battery) comes normally with a 6-cell battery. So I ordered a second battery, a 9-cell one, and for some reason unknown to me Dell decided to make both batteries 9-cell, instead of giving me a small and a big one. M9324 battery,Nice, two of these 80 Wh batteries will last a complete transatlantic flight, each one giving up to 5 hours of power.

The laptop comes with a modem, ethernet card, and WiFi, of which I am using the latter. That was very easy to set up, I just needed to type in the WEP-key which I use to prevent others from surfing on my connection, and I was ready to go. You can also get Bluetooth, but I didn't take this optional extra.

The Dell Inspiron 6000 does not have a "stick" for mouse control, only a touchpad. A Kensington Pocket Mouse is a recommended extra. Having only used desktop keyboards before, a laptop keyboard takes time getting used to, but the keys are big enough and have enough "depths" to give a real typing feeling.
